I had tried the MLM selling. I had tried making money from referrals. Nothing seemed to work the way I thought it would.

That is until I found a way to make $30/hour teaching English Classes Online! O.k. I know it sounds like a scam, but stick with me….

The Lowdown on Getting Paid to Teach English

If you are looking into getting paid to teach English online, you need to know just what you are getting into and what it takes to make it as a work from home English teacher.

Most companies will already have lesson plans done for you. So, you don’t have to plan or grade work that is done. You are simply getting paid to teach.

Although most companies have their own lessons, there are some that don’t. Keep an eye open for them and make sure the pay outweighs your time.

Keep in mind that after you apply, you will need to do a demonstration of your teaching abilities on the portal. This will help interviewers choose the best candidates for the job.

There are tons of companies that are willing to pay you for teaching English as a second language. In fact, there are over 18 companies that will pay you to teach from home.

Since I know just how much time it can take to research all these companies, I have done all the work for you, and picked my top 3!

Get Paid to Teach English Online: Top 3 Sites that Will Pay You

I know you are thinking, but I don’t have any experience doing this. I am not a teacher! I don’t know how to teach English.

You don’t have to be a teacher, know how to teach, or even know what you are doing to get paid to teach English online.

In fact, there is an extremely high demand for English speakers in most of the developing countries.

This is because businesses around the world know that learning English is a necessity to succeeding in a global economy.

This means even when our economy has ups and downs, you will still have work. And, those wanting to learn English overseas will pay you good money just to teach it to them.

There are many different companies offering this type of job, but I have narrowed it down to the top 3 sites that I have found are the best because why should you not get the very best?

1). Get Paid to Teach English Online with VIPKID

I like VIPKID because they are one of the most legitimate companies out there. You don’t have to play a guessing game to know they got their ps and qs down.

In fact, VIPKID is featured on top sites like Forbes, Huffington Post, and Wall Street Journal.

VIPKID is a Chinese company that is based in Beijing. Currently, they offer English tutoring classes to Chinese students, but are looking to expand.

The platform is completely online. So, all the lessons are prepared for you, and all you have to do is implement them.

The company is hiring you to give one-on-one English lessons to all of their students. One-on-one is by far the easiest way to teach and the best for kids.

Pay is only about $7 to $9 per class, but they are only 25-minute classes. So, you could make up to $18 per hour plus monthly bonuses. VIPKID is great at giving bonuses.

However, just like any job, there are pros and cons, so let’s look at those.

VIPKID CONS

I like to start with the cons because I feel like it is always important to end on a positive note.

Although I really love VIPKID, there are some things that may make choosing this as your job, a little more difficult. So, here’s the cons for you to delve into.

  1. You need a degree. It doesn’t have to be in education, but in order to work for VIPKID, you need a University Degree in something.
  2. The hours didn’t work for me. Since you are working with kids across the world, the times will be opposite of yours. This means you could be working in the middle of the night.
  3. The work fills up quickly. Since these types of jobs are so popular, teaching spots fill up quickly. So, you have to be on your A game.
  4. There is a lot to learn. VIPKID may be a learning curve for you. With a whole new interview process, and technology galore, this learning curve may be frustrating.
  5. Pay is less than others. The pay range for VIPKID is lower than some other English teaching platforms, but all the work is done for you.

VIPKID Pros

Honestly, I think the pros far outweigh the cons for VIPKID. They really seem to have their sh** together! Here’s what I love about VIPKID:

  1. The hours are flexible. I am on Eastern time, but that doesn’t mean I have to work in the middle of the night. Actually, I can work from 5am-9am which is China’s 5p-9p time (perfect).
  2. There is no lesson planning. Ok, for me, this is the icing on the cake. Everything is done for you! You can even go in and look at lessons before you teach.
  3. No grading. As a teacher, I hated all the grading that went along with it. With VIPKID, you simply do your 25-minute session and leave some notes. What?!
  4. VIPKID has potential growth. The great thing about VIPKID is that you can grow with the company. And, that means more $ in your pocket.
  5. It’s one-on-one. Come on, there is nothing easier than teaching a kid one-on-one. It’s an easy way to gauge what they know and where to go. Plus, the kids are super cute.

How to Start Teaching for VIPKID

If you are ready to start working for VIPKID, you can easily sign up online and start working within the week. Here is how you do it:

  1. Apply online
  2. Complete a 30-minute demonstration before you begin
  3. Sign your contract and set up your teaching profile.
  4. Start teaching for VIPKID.

2). Make Money Teaching English Online with Qkids

What I like about QKids is the ability to teach with the littles. QKids focusses on age groups between 5-12 years old. Which is my perfect level.

It doesn’t matter if you are a college student, a teacher, or a stay at home mom, QKids are looking for teachers from all walks of life. However, you must have a degree or be enrolled in a university.

Pay is a little more than VIPKID at $16-$20 per hour, however, the sessions are 40-minutes instead of 25-minutes.

English teaching certificates are preferred, but not required for this job.

If you are looking for a part-time job with a minimum requirement of 6 hours per week, this may be just what you are looking for.

QKids cons

This company is great to work for and has a lot of benefits, but there are still a few cons you need to think about.

  1. You need a degree. Like VIPKID, you need a degree or to be enrolled in a University to work for QKids.
  2. Hours are very part-time. Currently, hours are very part-time. There is not as many kids to teach as with VIPKID.
  3. You will work on China time. Since you are working with kids from China, you will have to work early mornings like 5a-9a or late nights such as 8p-11p.
  4. Lack of advancement. There isn’t really a lot of room for you to advance or make more money in this company. Everything is pretty set, and that’s it.
  5. There are no benefits. Even if you do manage to make full-time hours, there are no benefits that full-time employees would get.

QKids Pros

Although QKids has some negatives that may not fit in your style, there are a lot of positives. I personally think the positives outweigh the cons, but check it out for yourself.

  1. Lessons are done for you. Like VIPKID, your lessons are done for you. So, you have no planning, grading, or prep work to do.
  2. You get paid for training. Unlike other companies that expect you to learn the platform on your own, QKids gives you training and pays you for it, too.
  3. You can earn bonuses. Showing up on time and performance can add an extra $10 per lesson to your pocket.
  4. It’s flexible. I love having the flexibility to take time off or change my schedule based on what my family needs. The schedule is completely flexible, and you can choose your own times.
  5. The experience is both fun and rewarding. The interactive tools they have placed in the lessons makes it fun to teach, and the bonuses make it a very rewarding experience.

How to Join QKids

If QKids seems like the company for you, you can apply right from the comfort of your home. Here’s what you do

  1. Apply to QKids online
  2. Complete a 30-minute demonstration before you begin

3). Earn Money to Teach Online with SayABC

Although I haven’t personally worked with SayABC, I have seen a lot of good reviews about this company. It is listed as one of the top online English jobs and continues to rise in popularity.

SayABC is like most online english teaching jobs. It caters to kids from 5-12 which is my sweet spot. This is also the age that kids are most receptive to learning new languages.

Their interactive learning program is great for the kids and super easy to teach. All you have to do is deliver the lessons through an audio-video feed using the platforms materials.

Not only do they offer great lessons, but they are also partnered with National Geographic which also backed by tier-one investors in China. So, they are one of the most well-established companies you could work for.

SayABC Cons

Of course, all companies have their good and their bad. Here are a few of the cons you may want to check out with SayABC:

  1. Hourly rate is contingent on bonuses. The advertised rate is $21 per out, but that rate is contingent on you making a $6 attendance bonus each time. So, make sure you are there on time!
  2. It is difficult to get that attendance bonus. You have to qualify to get the advertised pay rate by having zero absences and being on time to 9 lessons in a row. This means you have to wait a few weeks to get the advertised rate.
  3. Class sizes are bigger. Unlike other platforms, SayABC has a 4 to 1 ratio. Though this takes the pressure off of just focussing on one kid, it comes with its own challenges.
  4. There are strict technical guidelines. Download speeds must be 20 Mbps. This is fully achievable, but if you have a slower internet speed, you won’t be able to work for SayABC.
  5. The first 2-weeks are slow. As you build up your clientele and reputation, it may take a couple weeks before you get many classes. After that, it should pick up.

SayABC Pros

I personally think the pros far outweigh the cons with this company. But, don’t take my word for it. Check out the pros for yourself!

  1. Lessons are fully complete. One of the things I like about this is that the lessons are complete with songs, lessons, and activities. This means I don’t have to try singing a song to the tune of “The Muffin Man.” I just push play.
  2. You don’t have to worry about your schedule. Classes are flexible so you can choose when you want to work. The computer system also takes your schedule into account when booking your classes.
  3. Teaching 4 can be easier. When you have 4 kids instead of one, kids get a real-life feel of the English language. They can learn and build their skills from each other as well as from the teacher.
  4. It’s not exclusive to North America. As long as you speak English fluently, you can apply. SayABC accepts people from Africa, America, Europe, and other countries.
  5. You can cancel without penalty. As long as you give 24-hours notice, you can cancel one of your booked classes without penalty. This makes it truly flexible.

How to Join SayABC

Applying is easy to do, and you can do it right from the convenience of your own home. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Apply to SayABC online
  2. Complete a 30-minute demonstration before you begin
  3. Sign your contract and set up your teaching profile.

Final Thoughts

One of the biggest reasons I work from home is the flexibility. I can stay home, take care of my kids, take care of the house, and still bring an income into the household.

The best community I have found for teaching English online is VIPKID; however, they don’t always have as much work because it is pretty saturated.

You may have to get up early or stay up late in order to make money. However, the amount you can make per hour is fairly lucrative especially when you factor in bonuses.

Teaching English online is a great way to make a full-time income right from the comfort of your own home.

To get the most out of teaching English online, you can sign up on multiple platforms to see which one works best with your lifestyle.

What are you waiting for? If you have a college degree and speak English as your primary language, you can start making money teaching English online, today!
