This usually happens in places that aren’t as populated or those that have a lot of empty land that they want to build up.

You can get everything from your housing to your student loans paid for, depending on the city or state and the programs they offer.

So, if you’re looking for somewhere to move to, you may want to consider one of the options below that offer some enticing rewards for packing up and moving.

How Much Do You Get Paid to Live in Alaska?

Alaska is one of the least populated states, but that doesn’t mean it’s not an ideal place to live.

Alaska is home to plenty of gorgeous tourist spots that could become your own backyard.

The state wants to incentivize those who are considering moving there by offering the Permanent Fund Dividend, which gives yearly dividends to residents.

Each year, the amount changes, but for 2019, it’s $1,606.

To be eligible, you must have been a resident of Alaska for the full year that you’re applying (so, if you’re applying for 2019, you must have lived there and had resident status for all of 2019).

So, unfortunately, you won’t be able to get this cash right away, but it might help you to budget your move if you know that it’ll be coming the following year.

Plus, you’re eligible to continue getting money each year that you remain a full-time resident of the state!

Another bonus of this particular fund is that it goes to each resident, not each household.

Therefore, even your qualifying spouse and children can get money from the dividend each year up to a specified amount by the state.

You can also apply for money for an estate if someone in your household or a family member passed away during a qualifying year.

Other Cities That Pay You to Live There

Looking to get paid to move?

There are other cities and states besides Alaska that will either pay you to move there or incentivize you in some other way to move or live there.

The State of Vermont

Vermont has one of the most well-known incentive programs for people looking to move to the state.

As of right now, the program is halted due to utilizing all of its funds, but that doesn’t mean this will be true forever.

Keep this page bookmarked for updates.

Vermont’s program is to incentivize remote workers to keep up with their remote jobs while living in Vermont.

The grant is available to full-time employees who work remotely the majority of the time.

Applicants may be eligible for up to $5,000 a year for up to two years after they move and become residents of the state.

Niagara Falls, New York

It doesn’t seem possible that Niagara Falls, NY would need to convince anyone to move there, but apparently it does.

The gorgeous area is home to the incredible USA side of Niagara Falls.

You can live right within its backyard by moving here and taking advantage of a program that helps new residents pay off their student loans.

This program comes from the Niagara Falls Community Development organization at it pays up to almost $7,000 in student loan debt.

The catch is that to get that full amount, you need to commit to remaining a resident there for at least two years.

If you stay for only one year, you’ll get $3,492. Stay for the second year and you’ll get the same payment for that year.

You need to show proof that you’re in good payment standing with your student loan company to become eligible for the grant.

You also need to move to an approved Niagara Falls neighborhood.

Lincoln, Kansas

If you’re considering a move to Kansas, then you’ll want to know about Lincoln’s incentive program that gives you a free site on which to build your brand new home.

The Free Home Site Program offers new lots in a subdivision for you to make your new home.

You’ll need to learn what the city’s requirements are for building a home just to ensure that your dream home fits the bill, but otherwise you’re good to go.

There’s nothing on the website that specifies whether you have to be an out of state resident to take advantage of this offer, so you may want to ask for specific eligibility requirements before signing up.

Harmony, Minnesota

If you build a new home in Harmony, Minnesota, the city will pay you a rebate of up to $12,000 as part of its program to incentivize new construction in the area.

The amount you get depends on the estimated market value of your home, but it won’t be less than $5,000.

You must claim your rebate within 12 months of approval, and each person will be served on a first-come, first-serve basis.

You’ll need to contact the Harmony Economic Development Authority for all the details and to learn more about how to apply.

You’ll submit an application and go through an interview process for the chance to get a reward package that’ll help you with your costs to move to the area.

What’s the reward? A second mortgage that’s forgivable over time and can help you lower your first mortgage payments, plus extra money to help you cover your moving expenses.

Marne, Iowa

Similar to some other Midwest states that want to encourage people to spread out a little more, Marne, Iowa has a free lot program to give away some of its empty lots to people who want to move there.

You’ll still need to purchase the home to build but having the lot for free can reduce your homebuying costs significantly.

To be eligible, you need to be a United States resident, build a minimum home size of 1200 square feet, use the site only for residential purposes, and maintain a maximum height of two stories.

You can download the application for the free lot program on the website.

Curtis, Nebraska

Curtis, Nebraska, has quite a few incentives for people considering a move.

First, there are some industrial and commercial lots available for free for people interested in opening a business in the area.

Those starting a business can also have access to special tax breaks for businesses, start-up funds, and other rewards.

There are also single-family residential lots available to eligible individuals and families who want to make Curtis their home.

Finally, families moving to Curtis from another school district with their kids may be eligible for up to $1,000 to help with the move.
