There are a number of blogging sites that are strictly devoted to the love of video games. So whether you prefer RPG (Role Playing Games), like Red Dead Redemption, MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online), like Fortnite, or even MMORPG (You guessed it! A combination of both Massive Multiplayer and Role Playing) games, like World of Warcraft, you are sure to find plenty of opportunities down below.

Video game blogger jobs

When most people think about video game jobs, they instantly think of 2 different jobs. Video game creator, or video game tester. But those are not the only video game related jobs that are out there! There are a variety of other gigs that can involve a passion for video games. One of them being a video game blogger, or journalist.

Some websites hire people simply as bloggers. They are expected to write a particular number of blog posts in a given time period. Whereas other sites prefer to hire what is called a guest blogger. As a guest blogger, you will only submit posts here and there.

Though these next sites do not pay their writers in any way, they can, however, offer the opportunity to gain experience as a writer. It may not sound like much, but it can certainly be beneficial for your future writing gigs.

#1. Gaming Debugged

Gaming Debugged is the perfect platform for those who are just starting out in their writing adventures. There is no compensation for your work. Not even a free game copy. However, don’t let that stop you from submitting your work, because this site gets some great traffic. It is the perfect opportunity to show the world what you are capable of.

You will be pleased to hear that there are no job applications here. You will instead find information on submitting a guest blog post.

However, before you get started, be sure to contact Ian at [email protected], to get all of the details on what exactly he prefers his bloggers to submit.

To get a general idea, Gaming Debugged is looking for variety in their content. Here are just some of the topics that bloggers often write about:

  • Game design and development
  • Retro gaming
  • Online gaming
  • YouTube gaming advice
  • Gaming Comparisons

Basically, if it is game related, Gaming Debugged would love to see it.

Just be sure that your post is over 400 words, well researched, and interesting, funny or useful. Also, clean language is a must. If you submit a post with profanity, well, save yourself, and the site owner some time. It simply isn’t allowed.

#2. Tech Sling

According to Tech Sling, “Guest blogging couldn’t be any easier!” Um, sign me up!

Due to the ease of creating guest posts on a variety of topics (video gaming included!), Tech Sling has over 1,000 registered contributors! Needless to say, you will not get paid for your posts, however, it is a great way to gain some experience, and get a feel for blogging.

With so many guest bloggers, you can expect a wait of about 2 weeks before your article gets published. To help speed up the process you will want to adhere to Tech Sling’s list of guidelines.

The guidelines are pretty typical of most blog posts. No linking to promotional or affiliate websites. Use spell check, fix any grammatical errors, and most of all, create unique content! Tech Sling also requests that your posts be structured with headings and subtitles, to make them easier to read.

And lastly, do not submit anything less than 500 words, or you will have to revise your post, and add content.

#3. Den of Geek

The Den of Geek websites offers a variety of posts concerning current events happening within the television, film, comics and video game industries.

Unfortunately, I was unable to locate any information about whether or not you will get any sort of reimbursement. But when it comes to hiring gaming writers, they prefer that they have previously been published on another site.

If you think you may want to try your hand at writing for Den of Geek, just send an email over to [email protected]. Be sure to include 2 different video game pieces (nonreviews) you have written. Also, they request that you find and send 3 links to gaming content that you find cool. That part is just to see whether or not you detail oriented, and can follow directions.

#4. Game Druid

By this point, it is clear that you are passionate about video games. But if you also consider yourself an amazing, credible and sincere writer, Game Druid wants to see what you have to offer!

This is a wonderful site packed full with guest posts about all things movie, comic book, video game, tech, and television.

You will want to send your guest post to the website owners at [email protected].

The guidelines for guest posts are pretty simple to follow. No post should be more than 2,500 words long, though they should be no less than 500-700 words. Also, as with all blogging sites, they request that you only submit original content. They don’t want to republish old news, no matter how well written you think it is.

Sponsored posts and including affiliate links are another no go. If you think you are ready to share your gaming insights, create an account at GameDruid today.

#5. Gamepur

Do you think you are capable of providing walkthroughs for new games, on various platforms? If so, you should definitely become a regular contributor with Gamepur.

The platform even publishes numerous editorials that pertain to anything in the gaming industry.

Simply send an email to [email protected], to apply. All you need to include is your name, your current city/country, the position you are applying for (walkthrough contributor), and any previous experience you have had. Also, it wouldn’t hurt to include your blog, if you have one!

Receive free games to review

Check out some of these video game blogger sites below! These platforms may not offer money, but they do offer more than just experience.

Many of these blogging sites will give their bloggers a review copy of a new game. These copies are sent, free of charge. In return, you will just be asked to form an honest opinion on all aspects of the game, and create an interesting article about it.

#6. That Videogame Blog

What I love about That Videogame Blog is that they hire bloggers from all blocks of life, so long as they are at least 18 years old. So if you live and breathe video games, take a gander!

Whether you are looking for a part-time gig, after you finish your school work, or want to make it a full-time experience, That Videogame Blog may be just the site that you are looking for.

As a full-time blogger, you will be required to make at least one entry per day, Monday through Friday. Part-timers only need to submit 2 posts throughout the week.

This gig is volunteer based. On the plus side, once you start writing for them, you will be able to receive copies of new games to try out, and then, of course, review. Another perk is the ability to go to gaming events, and even get your very own “press pass!”

If this sounds like something you may want to look into feel free to shoot them an email with your name, age, your current city/country and just a few things about yourself.

#7. Elite Gamer

Elite Gamer provides the same job opportunities that you will find at That Videogame Blog. Part time, full time, game reviewer, blogger. No matter what your schedule is like, fill out the page with your name, age, current city/country, and whether or not you wish to volunteer with full-time posts, or part-time.

As with That Videogame Blog, you can also expect to receive review copies of new videogames, to help give your latest feedback, and have special access to video game events.

Write video game reviews for money

Unlike the previous sites listed, the following sites offer writers cash payments, for their gaming articles. Some of these sites will pay you to write reviews of video games, whereas others accept other kinds of writings, from various blog posts, to complete video game guides.

#8. Killer Guides

Killer Guides is currently hiring freelance writers on their platform. Although the work is freelance, you will be expected to meet deadlines, and work in a professional manner.

While their website does not discuss your earning potentials, I can tell you that you will get paid cash for your work.

At Killer Guides their authors work with editors to have their extensive game knowledge put into a guide, for consumers to purchase.

If you are reading this post, you have likely had your days when you were stuck at the same level for hours, or perhaps even days, without any progress. Many others have been in your shoes. This is when desperate measures are called in. The purchase of game guides!

If hired as an author at Killer Guides, you will become the hero of many, with your detailed guides.

#9. What Culture

What Culture is a site full of all sorts of articles on anything tv, comic, music, movie, WWE and video game related.

This platform works a little different, in that instead of writing and submitting blog posts, you actually have to pitch your article ideas. But before you can even start doing, you must first create an account, by providing your email address. From there you will be able to submit a general description of your potential article for the editorial team to review.

If the team likes it, you can then whip up your article and submit it for approval.

Once approved, and published, you can then start earning money for up to 28 days. You will be paid for every 1,000 views your published article receives. Payouts are made each week via PayPal.

Also, there is no limit as to how many pitches you can submit to What Culture. So get the gears cranking, and come up with as many creative articles that you can.

#10. The Escapist

The Escapist is another platform that will publish some of the writings of guest authors. There focus, like many of the platforms I have previously listed, is all about science and tech, movies and tv, comics and video games.

Before you get to writing though, it is important that you first pitch your idea to the editing team. Keep it simple, yet provide that interesting points that will make them want to read more. Once you are ready to submit your pitch, send it to [email protected]. And don’t forget to mention that you are pitching for video gaming. If you send a pitch all about the Marvel’s The Avengers, it could easily end up in almost any of the channels they offer.

While I do not know exactly how much you can get paid for your submissions, it is safe to assume that you will be paid a small amount, per views. However, I have read that the more experienced you are (more published posts) the more likely you are to earn more money.

Conclusion

If you have a longtime love of video games, and are gifted with the ability to create fresh content, there are many gaming journalism jobs that are just what you have been looking for.

While most of them don’t pay you, or even send free games to review, they are all a fabulous way to add blogging experience.

Also, regardless of whether your posts get accepted or not, it is a wonderful way to motivate you to start up your own gaming blog. All of your articles that sadly got rejected would love a place to call home. Just because your post didn’t mesh with one platform, doesn’t mean it wasn’t good!
